  • Tottenham Hotspur crashed to an unnecessary 0-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Burnley on Wednesday
  • The defeat hamstrung the north Londoners' opportunity to make a move on the tightly-contested 'Top Four' spot on the Premier League table
  • Unsurprisingly, supporters and rivals took to social media to point out how blowing opportunities was intrinsic in the club's culture

"Lads, it's only Tottenham."

These were the words of legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of a match against Tottenham Hotspur and the Red Devils. To no one's surprise, Spurs did not miss the opportunity to miss another important opportunity, this time against Burnley.

The men from north London, fresh off a monumental victory against Manchester City on Saturday night, crashed to a 0-1 defeat against perennial relegation battling Potters on Wednesday night.

The loss was not fatal but it was costly in their race for a UEFA Champions League spot. Social media, whether it was Spurs fans or gleeful haters, was in eviscerating form in its reaction to the latest in a long line of Spurs chokes.

"Man took the Spurs job so if he wins, it's an achievement. If he loses, it's typical Spurs. This Conte fella has the easiest job in the PL."

"I’m not even going to moan tonight. We deserve all the abuse we get. We are an embarrassment. Typical Spurs."

@kickthfc said:

"Shameful that we beat Man City a few days ago and now we lose to a team that could go down. We’re not getting top 4."

"Typical Spurs: giving me hope one week then stabbing me in the heart the next..."

"Bloody typical Spurs performance: after the high against City, and then a very below performance against a team who haven't won back to back games for 13 months! #spursy."

Heartbreak for Antonio Conte as hard-fighting Burnley put up an impressive performance to beat Tottenham

Burnley kept their Premier League survival hopes alive on Wednesday night after they recorded a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the Turf Moor.

As reported on Sports Brief, Ben Mee grabbed the only goal of the encounter to take the Clarets to 20 points, just two points from safety.

Victory would have taken Tottenham to fifth position on the standings, but they fluffed the chance and Antonio Conte's men will now need to return to the drawing board.
