The hopes of a Nigerian winning the Ballon d'Or award for this year have been lost as Barcelona striker Asisat Oshoala has been left out on the list of the final 3 nominees in the female category.

When the Super Falcons star was listed among the 20 contenders, Nigerians were happy that she was able to make it, thanks to her superb performances for Barcelona last season.

Asisat Oshoala was also nominated days after being crowned the best African female footballer for the year 2022 and she has now won the award five times.

According to the reports in the Punch and The Nation, Beth Mead, Lena Oberdorf and Alexia Putellas were picked as the final three contenders for the Ballon d'Or.

As things stand now, Asisat Oshoala will have to continue with her impressive performances for Barcelona and Super Falcons and hope that she will win the award in the nearest future.
