The Nigeria Football Federation has congratulated Super Falcons’ forward Rasheedat Ajibade for emerging joint top-scorer of the just concluded 12th Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Although the team missed out on its ambition of a 10th title and even failed to pick up a medal after losing to Zambia in the bronze medal game, Super Falcons secured a ticket to the FIFA World Cup.

Ajibade finished the competition with three goals and three assists making her joint top scorer alongside South Africa’s Hilda Magaia and Moroccan captain Ghizlane Chebbak as seen on CAF’s website.

While Hildah Magaia scored two goals to guide the Banyana Banyana to their first-ever WAFCON title, Chebbak was named the Player of the Tournament for consistently surprising everyone with her outstanding performances during the tournament.

While congratulating Ajibade, NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi said: “We rejoice with Rahseedat Ajibade for her emergence as joint top-scorer of the tournament and we implore her to continue to show even more prolificity and commitment in the jerseys of club and country. Her three goals surely helped the Super Falcons to win a World Cup ticket. Our team would certainly have been in the Final if not for the incident that led to her expulsion in the semi-final match against the host nation.

Ajibade was ejected after 70 minutes of the semi-final against Morocco at the Complexe Prince Moulay Abdellah, with Nigeria already one woman down, and the Falcons played the next 50 minutes (of regulation and extra time) with only nine players, losing in the ensuing penalty shoot-out.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Rasheedat Ajibade, Super Falcons' main star at the just concluded Women's Africa Cup of Nations, understands the importance of education after narrating how she bagged her second degree during the lockdown.

In a chat with CAF on their website, Ajibade who has a degree in Accounting from Lagos State Polytechnic explained why she had to delay her move into professional football to get a second degree in Sports Psychology from Barca Innovation Hub.

According to her, education is very important because you can fall back on it after you are done playing football.
