Barcelona and Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala has broken the record of former Super Falcons star Perpetua Nkwocha after being crowned as the winner of the 2022 CAF best female player of the year.

The 2022 CAF award was done on Thursday night, 21 July, in Morocco with many African football legends in attendance in what was a colourful and awesome ceremony.

Despite the fact that Nigerian male footballers are finding it difficult to be named as the best footballer in Africa, Asisat Oshoala on the other hand is making the nation proud.

Last season, Asisat Oshoala helped her club Barcelona to win the League title even though they lost the Champions League final against Lyon.

Which Perpetua Nkwocha's record did she break?

After being named as the 2022 best African female player, Asisat Oshoala has now won the prize five times which is above Perpetua Nkwocha who won it four times.

During her active playing days, Perpetua Nkwocha was one of the best African midfielders and the 46-year-old played 99 games netting 80 goals for the Super Falcons.

Senegal and Bayern Munich Star Sadio Mane Named 2022 African Footballer of the Year

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Sadio Mane was crowned the 2022 Africa Player of the Year at the CAF football awards held in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday evening.

The 30-year-old Senegal attacker beat off competition from compatriot Edouard Mendy and former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations winner was presented with the award at a colourful ceremony in Rabat.

Mane has successfully defended his crown after being the last player to win the award before COVID-19 forced the suspension of the event.

The new Bayern Munich forward had a successful campaign last season, helping Liverpool win the a domestic double of FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.
