Morocco Beat Super Falcons of Nigeria in Tough AWCON 2022 Semifinal

Super Falcons of Nigeria on Monday night, 18 July, lost 5-4 on penalties to the Lionesses of Morocco in the semifinal of the 2022 African Women Cup of Nations which was a tough battle.

The hosts knew what a win would do for them before the start of the encounter and they began aggressively firing in all cylinders looking for goal against the Super Falcons.

And after the first 15 minutes of the encounter, the Morocco players looked tired and the Super Falcons of Nigeria started playing better.

Nigeria had some chances to score in the first half with the likes of Ajibade and Uchenna coming close, but they were unable to find the back of the net as it ended goalless.

What happened in the second half?

Three minutes after the start of the second half, the Super Falcons were reduced to 10 men as Halimatu Ayinde was red carded for a bad challenge.

But Nigeria took the lead in the 62nd minute when Mrabet scored an own goal.

However, the hosts came back into the game and restored parity in the 66th minute through Sanaa Mssoudy who benefited from defensive errors by the Nigerians.

Things turned sour again for the Super Falcons of Nigeria as Ajibade was red carded in the 71st minute and they finished the 90 minutes with 9 women.

Super Falcons also played the extra time with 9 women before losing 5-4 on penalties.
