Augustine Eguavoen who is Super Eagles interim coach has explained that Premier League side Watford actually threatened striker Emmanuel Dennis for him to miss the 2021 AFCON.

The 2021 African Cup of Nations will be starting in Cameroon on January 9 and the Super Eagles of Nigeria are currently in Abuja preparing for the tournament with the aim of winning it.

Emmanuel Dennis was among the players invited for the tournament by the Super Eagles coaching crew and NFF, but the striker was later withdrawn from the team.

How did Emmanuel Dennis get the invitation?

His incredible performances so far this season for Watford in the Premier League earned him a call-up to the Super Eagles as Dennis has been getting the goals for the side.

According to the video on NFF TV, Eguavoen explained that Dennis actually wanted to represent Nigeria, but his club Watford blocked him.

“Dennis told me that his club had done everything humanly possible for him not be at the AFCON.
“I can’t force it, I reported the matter to authority and they also tried, that was why we had to wait until the last second before we pushed the button.
“Dennis said he wanted to come but the club are threatening him.''

NFF finally reveals why Ademola Lookman was not named in Super Eagles AFCON final list

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Nigerian Football Federation have finally cleared the air on the omission of Ademola Lookman's name on the final list of Super Eagles players who will be playing in 2022 AFCON in Cameroon.

There have been lot of reactions from fans and Nigerians on why the Leicester City star did not make the final list despite his incredible form this season in the Premier League.

Recently, Ademola Lookman made it clear that he is ready to play for Nigeria even though he also has the chance to represent the Three-Lions of England.

NFF explained that Ademola Lookman has not been cleared by FIFA to play for the Super Eagles.
