Former Super Eagles Captain Jay Jay Okocha Names One Club He Joined After Failing to Do Research

Former Super Eagles captain Austin Jay Jay Okocha has lamented that he did not do proper research before joining English Premier League club Bolton Wanderers, Complete Sports reports.

Having played at French club Paris Saint-Germain between 1998 and 2002, Okocha left Paris so join Bolton Wanderers who were playing in the Premier League at that time.

Okocha scored 14 goals for the English club in 124 appearances between 2002 and 2006 before leaving to join Qatari side Qatar SC.

After a year, the midfield maestro then returned to England to play for Hull City where he played 18 matches before retirement.

Okocha told Ally McCoist and Gabriel Agbonlahor on their Talksport breakfast show that he found life very difficult to cope with under manager, Sam Allardyce when he first join Bolton.

He played a key role in ensuring that Bolton avoid relegation to earn a legendary status at the club.

“Well, I will say that it’s obvious I didn’t do my research before signing for Bolton. But as a football person, you know football comes first, not the city, not the lifestyle that comes with the City.
“But one thing was clear, the training ground was different. The attitudes towards the games were different. And I also think the mentality, you know the football style was difficult. It took me a while to really understand what Sam’s philosophy was.”

Agbonlahor praises Okocha

Meanwhile, during the show, Agbonlahor showered encomiums on ex-Super Eagles midfield maestro Jay Jay Okocha, describing him as a legend.

Okocha remains one of the most skillful players to ever grace the game and his exploits have earned praises from a fellow former footballer.

The ex-Aston Villa star has applauded the former Bolton Wanderers sensation who got famous for his dribbling, step-overs and nutmeg skills during his active days.

The Nigerian international who has quick feet of the ball and possesses dribbling qualities like Super Eagles legend Austin Okocha was behind Adama Traore and Nahuel Luján.

According to CIES Observatory latest rankings, the CSKA Moscow winger scored 9.3, while Argentine star who plays for Universidad de Chile has 9.7.
