2023 AFCON Qualifier: Super Eagles Coach Jose Peseiro Speaks Following Home Loss to Guinea Bissau

The head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has lamented after Nigeria lost at home to Guinea-Bissau in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Mama Balde struck in the 29th minute to stun the home side as the visitors ran away with all three points to top Group A of the qualifiers.

Despite fielding a star-studded side, Jose Peseiro saw his boys struggle to string passes upfront and they barely tested the opposition goalkeeper.

The Djurtus matched the hosts in all departments of the game, keeping strikers Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman at bay.

Guinea-Bissau played a tactical defensive game and the surged forward on the counter which eventually paid off.

Victory for the Guinea-Bissau takes them to 7 points as Nigeria trail with 6. Both teams will clash again on Monday in the reverse fixture.

Reflecting on the loss, Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro tweeted:

“We are sad and upset with this bad result. But we played a good game, very attacking, and created many goalscoring opportunities that unfortunately we didn’t take.
“We want to repeat this performance in Guinea, but scoring. We are going with all our commitment and sacrifice to win.”

Guinea Bissau coach reacts

Sports Brief earlier reported that the head coach of the Guinea-Bissau national team Baciro Balde has reacted following his side’s shocking victory over the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Abuja.

Despite parading some of the biggest names in world football at the moment, Nigeria struggled at home for the entire 90 minutes.

The Wild Dogs pulled off the big upset as the lone goal of the match came in the 29th minute after Mama Balde slotted the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.
