Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has urged his players to give maximum performance in their coming African Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau in Abuja on Friday evening, March 24.

Nigeria who are three-time African champions will be going into this game with boosted morale having won their previous two ties and are at the top of the group with six points.

The last time Nigeria faced Guinea Bissau was in the group stages of the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon in which the Super Eagles won 2-0.

According to the report on Complete Sports, Peseiro has warned his players to be careful claiming that their opponents will pose a threat in Abuja.

What Jose Peseiro said

“Guinea-Bissau was at the last AFCON they currently have four points after beating São Tomé and drawing with Sierra Leone.
“They are a team with good quality, they will try to defend here and rely on counter attack. But it’s now left for us to put our commitments into the game.
“There are no easy matches and if we don’t give our maximum we won’t beat Guinea-Bissau.“

Osimhen set to surpass Ighalo's record

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Victor Osimhen is now on the verge of surpassing the goal scoring records of Odion Ighalo and Ahmed Musa in the Super Eagles with hours to the AFCON qualifying game against Guinea Bissau.

The Napoli striker has been the shining light so far this season in the Italian Serie A thanks to his incredible goalscoring form for his club who are topping the League standings.

Osimhen is also leading the goal chart in Italy with 21 goals and could become the first Nigerian in history to win the Golden Boot award in the Serie A.
