  • Victor Osimhen will surely win the Serie A title this season, becoming the second to achieve such a feat
  • Other Nigerian footballer stars have also been successful in Europe's top-five leagues
  • Kanu Nwankwo and Mikel Obi won the English Premier League on two occasions respectively

Nigerian international Victor Osimhen closes in on the Serie A title as Napoli already have one hand on the prestigious Scudetto.

It is the first time in over three decades that the Partenopei will claim the title as they have opened up a 15-point lead over second placed AC Milan with 13 matches left before the season ends.

Osimhen would not be the first Nigerian to win the Serie A title, as Obafemi Martins was part of the Inter Milan squad that won the title during the 2005/2006 season.

He featured in 53 league matches and scored just one goal but was part of the squad that won the Bundesliga during the 2001/2002 season.

8. Gbenga Okunowo - La Liga

He remains the only Nigerian player to win the Spanish La Liga. The Nigerian full-back made more than 10 league appearances for La Liga winners Barcelona during the 1998/99 season.

Why Osimhen must avoid Man Utd transfer

Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen has attracted interest from several top clubs across Europe with Manchester United said to be closely monitoring the situation.

The 24-year-old forward has made public his desire to feature in the Premier League and he has been heavily linked with a move to the Old Trafford outfit.

However, Napoli have since slapped a staggering €150 million price tag on the striker, a figure which makes signing him a difficult prospect.
