Nigeria, Uganda Battle for World Cup Ticket at 2023 Under 20 AFCON

  • Uganda will face the Flying Eagles of Nigeria in the quarter-final battle of the 2023 AFCON in Egypt
  • Captain of the Uganda side Isma Mugulusi has disclosed that they are ready to defeat the Nigerian team
  • Nigeria coach Ladan Bosso also revealed that his wards can't afford to disappoint millions of Nigerians

Flying Eagles of Nigeria will go head to head with their opponents from Uganda on Thursday evening, 2 March, in the quarter-final clash of the ongoing AFCON Under 20 in Egypt.

The title for this competition is not the main target for these two teams, but what they are looking for is to qualify for the FIFA Under 20 World Cup later this year.

And to qualify for the global tournament, one of these two teams must reach the semi-final of the 2023 AFCON.

Ahead of the big encounter against Nigeria, Isma Mugulusi who is the captain of Uganda states clearly that he and his teammates are ready to challenge and conquer the Flying Eagles according to the report on The Nation.

Statement made by Isma Mugulusi

“We are ready, everyone is in shape, and we’re mentally good. We’ve tried to put what the coach wants into practice. I think we can overcome Nigeria in the quarter-final.
“Nigeria has been good but now we’re also good and we can compete.
“If we manage to qualify for the quarter-finals that means we can also qualify for the semi-finals and go to the World Cup.''

Bosso wants to reach semi-final

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Ladan Bosso who is the head coach of the Nigerian Under 20 male national team made it clear that his target and that of his wards is to qualify for the 2023 World Cup.

The former El-Kanemi Warriors coach and his players are currently preparing for their quarter-final match against Uganda at the ongoing Under-20 AFCON which will be played on Thursday night, 2 March.

A win for the Flying Eagles will give them the ticket to play at the World Cup later this year and Bosso says his players are ready to make Nigerians happy.

Bosso assured Nigerians that it is a must for his boys to record a win against Uganda on Thursday evening.
