Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen has equalled a staggering goals record set by Liberian legend, George Weah in the Italian Serie A.

The Super Eagles striker was in action and scored as Napoli beat Sampdoria 2-0, to extend their lead in the league standings to seven.

The former Lille of France striker opened the scoring in the 19th minute of the encounter with a brilliant finish.

Elif Elmas wrapped it up with another goal from the spot late in the game, as the Partenopei claimed all three points.

Osimhen’s goal means the 24-year-old becomes the second African player to score 10+ goals in three different Serie A seasons, after Weah with AC Milan (1995/96, 1996/97 and 1997/98), Complete Sports reports.

The win saw Napoli maintain the top spot with 44 points, seven ahead of champions AC Milan.

Akpoborie sees potential of Osimhen

Meanwhile, former Nigerian international, Jonathan Akpoborie has suggested that the Napoli marksman is capable of becoming a deadly striker.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia striker, Odion Ighalo is ranked Nigeria's best striker for the year 2022, according to new statistics.

The International Federation of Football History & Statistics rated the former Manchester United forward ahead of Napoli striker Osimhen.

Former Watford forward Ighalo placed 34th with 28 goals for Al-Shabab and Al-Hilal, while Osimhen did not make the 67-man list.
