Cristiano Giuntoli who is the sporting Director at Napoli has explained that the Italian side had the chance of signing Erling Haaland from Salzburg, but they settled for Victor Osimhen.

Haaland's primary duty is scoring goals, and that was the major reason that made Manchester City to spend big in signing him before the start of the ongoing Premier League season.

“The contract was done with Salzburg, paying the €25M release clause for Haaland but he preferred BVB, and we were looking at him or Osimhen who we put on the same level.''

Meanwhile, Super Eagles of Nigeria will be without Osimhen for their international friendly game against Portugal on Thursday, 17 November.

Reason that made Osimhen snub

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Napoli chiefs were singled out as the ones behind the reason that striker Victor Osimhen snubbed playing for Nigeria against Portugal.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be in action against the European nation on Thursday, November 17, in an international friendly game that is expected to be a challenging one.

Osimhen was among the Super Eagles players selected for this friendly game, but the Nigerian Football Federation recently announced that the Napoli star is injured.

The news of Osimhen getting injured has caused talk among Nigerian football fans, as many have been expecting him to lead the attack for the Super Eagles against Portugal.

Interestingly, Osimhen played for Napoli last Saturday and even scored in their win over Udinese, before the announcement from the NFF.
