Nigerians Mock Tammy Abraham, Tomori for Missing England’s 2022 World Cup Squad

• Roma striker Tammy Abraham and AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori will not be going to the World Cup
• England coach Gareth Southgate has released the final names of players he is taking to Qatar for the competition
• Some Nigerian fans are however happy for Southgate to have dropped Abraham and Tomori in his squad

Some Nigerian football fans have taken to social media to mock Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori after they were excluded from England's final squad for the 2022 World Cup.

England coach Gareth Southgate on Thursday evening, 10 November, announced his final squad for the World Cup in which Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka was called.

Also on the list is Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Mason Mount, Phil Foden, Luke Shaw and other big stars who will be flying the flag of England in Qatar.

On the list, Abraham and Tomori were not considered as England coach felt that these two players have not done enough to warrant them making the list.

Where are they playing?

Tomori is currently playing for AC Milan in the Serie A and he has been one of the best defenders this season, while Abraham is on the books of Roma.

According to some tweets, fans are of the opinions that Nigeria would have taken Abraham and Tomori to the World Cup if they had chosen the West African nation.

Former Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick, tried his best to convince Abraham and Tomori play for Super Eagles, but they chose England.

These two players were born in abroad to Nigerian parents and had the chances of playing for the Super Eagles.

Southgate unveils England’s squad

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how England head coach Gareth Southgate finally announced his 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup.

The squad comprises top players predominantly from the Premier League, with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford making the cut.

In the goalkeeping department, Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale is in the team, but there was no place for Man United shot-stopper Dean Henderson.

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw headline the defence, with Chelsea star Mason Mount and Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham making the midfielders' shortlist.

In attack, Southgate will be relying on the likes of Man City youngster Phil Foden, Arsenal prodigy Bukayo Saka, and the experienced Harry Kane.
