  • Osimhen and Simi Nwankwo were tied on 31 goals each, but the Napoli striker scored a goal in their 2-1 win over Atalanta

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen becomes Nigeria's all-time scorer in the Italian Serie A after finding the back of the net against Atalanta.

The Nigerian international only joined the Partenopei in the summer of 2020 and has already scored 32 goals in the Italian topflight.

The 23-year-old hit the landmark in the first-half of their away game at Atalanta when he drew his side level.

VAR earlier adjudged Osimhen to have handled the ball in the danger area, handing the home team a penalty kick.

Compatriot Ademola Lookman stepped up to put the hosts ahead from the spot in the 19th minute, a lead that lasted only four minutes.

Osimhen struck back with a header to make it 1-1 in the 23rd minute, and then Napoli went on to win the game as the Nigerian forward assisted Elif Elmas to grab their side's second goal in the 35th minute.

It eventually turned out to be the winning goal as Napoli went on to win the tie 2-1.

Soccernet reports that before the match against Atalanta, Osimhen was locked on the same 31 goals as former Nigeria international Simeon ‘Simy’ Nwankwo.

But with his goal on Saturday evening, the Napoli man has gone clear of the former Crotone hero.

Former Inter Milan striker Obafemi Martins bagged 28 goals during his time in Italy.

And Nigerians have continued to react to Osimhen's feat

One said:

"@ChelseaFC, @victorosimhen9 should be your number 1 priority in January please."

Another replied:

"If you're Osimhen's agent, you'll advise him leave Napoli in January?"

A fan wrote:

"Another player I tipped for Greatness living up to his billing. Imagine my surprise.

Osimhen advised to join Bayern Munich

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that a Nigerian sports analyst, Mr Bertrand, has urged Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen to consider moving to Bayern Munich.

Having scored 18 goals last season, Osimhen, who has already notched in 9 goals this term, is on the radar of a number of top clubs in Europe.

Last summer, the 23-year-old was linked with a move to Bayern Munich in the wake of Robert Lewandowski's transfer from the Bundesliga club to Barcelona.
