Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has explained that he is not surprised that the Nigerian Football chiefs are owing his successor Jose Peseiro who has not been paid for six months.

Peseiro started officially as the Super Eagles coach in May 2022 after the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2022 World Cup losing the play-offs to Ghana.

Austin Eguavoen was the coach in charge of the Super Eagles for the World Cup play-offs and was fired after the Black Stars picked the ticket paving ways for Peseiro.

But before the coming of Peseiro and Eguavoen, Rohr was in charge and the German was sacked weeks to the start of the last African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

According to the report on Owngoalnigeria, Rohr explained that former NFF President Amaju Pinnick should be blamed for Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Gernot Rohr's statement

''Pinnick should be blamed for Nigeria's failure to make it to the World Cup because I still don't understand why I was sacked despite meeting all targets.
''Now they can't pay the new coach and how do you defend that?.
''Six months is a whole lot of time especially from the start because I was owed for months also and I am not surprised, but it is not the best ideal situation for a coach to give his best.''

NFF confirms owing Peseiro

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how an official from the Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that the football body owes Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro.

Reports had filtered in that the Portuguese tactician is being owed about six months of his salary, having received only allowances and bonuses.

It is believed that Peseiro, employed in May 2022, has not received a single paycheck since he took up the job.

The current law by FIFA grants the manager grounds to terminate his contract without prejudice, and he must also be paid in full.

NFF officials are now working around the clock to ensure the manager is paid.

The NFF chiefs are reportedly working hard to avoid that scenario and will look to pay the former Saudi Arabia coach this week.
