Italian giants AC Milan saw their €5m bid for Nigerian star Raphael Onyedika rejected by Danish club FC Midtjylland as the summer transfer window is set to close.

Milan are hoping to bolster their squad this summer, and they have set sights on the Nigerian international who is valued at €8m by his club.

Nigerian outlet Daily Post reports that AC Milan have been discussing with Midtjylland for several weeks, but the latter rejected their €5m bid.

The 21-year-old is valued for around €8m, meaning the Italians need to up their game in a bid to sign the dazzling midfielder.

It was gathered that the technical director at AC Milan, Paolo Maldini and director of football, Frederic Massara, had scouted the Nigerian.

Onyedika, who arrived at FC Midtjylland’s Academy from local club FC Ebedei in 2019, is appreciated for his explosiveness and intelligence on the ball.

The player has grown to become one of the key stars in the team following the departure of his compatriot, Frank Onyeka to Brentford last summer.

Nwakaeme linked with a move to Galatasaray

Meanwhile, Nigerian international Anthony Nwakaeme could make a shock move to former Turkish champions Galatasaray.

After four successful seasons, the lanky striker has just left rivals Trabzonspor, but he could be joining their arch-rivals this summer.

The 33-year-old became a cult hero among Trabzonspor fans after he impressed as they went on to make a statue to honour him.

He scored 47 goals and made 40 assists for the club, but last season was his most successful.

Sports Brief earlier reported that football fans of Premier League returnees Nottingham Forest queued up to get autographs of Nigerian international Taiwo Awoniyi.

The lanky forward scored Nottingham Forest's first Premier League goal in 23 years and 90 days during their win over West Ham United on Sunday.

Nottingham Forest made 14 new signings ahead of the league season, and it proved significant as Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal, while Dean Henderson saved Declan Rice's penalty.
