Former Super Eagles Star Who Quit Football Because Of Cancer Wins Debut MMA Fight

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Carl Ikeme who was forced to quit football because of blood cancer has moved on into another sporting activity winning his debut MMA fight.

After serious battle against cancer, Carl Ikeme was advised by the medical experts for him to leave football because of his health situation which he agreed.

Nigerian football lovers were not happy that time when Carl Ikeme announced his retirement from international football, but they wished him quick recovery.

Why were the fans not happy?

As at the time Carl Ikeme was in goal for the Super Eagles, the former Wolves' stopper has already been tipped as good replacement for Vincent Enyeama.

Enyeama quit the Super Eagles following issues with former coach Sunday Oliseh who also later walked away.

According to the report in the Sun, the Nigerian is back in sporting competition though something very different from the Beautiful Game.

Ikeme fought Fuad Ahmed in the first Raw Grappling World Championship at the IndigoO2 Arena in London.

The 36-year-old was impressive winning the fight 4-0.

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Super Eagles forward, Moses Simon is still basking in the excitement of being nominated for the CAF Player of the Year award after the Confederation of Africa Football released the list of the nominees.

Moses has been nominated alongside Africa’s top stars including Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Riyad Mahrez for Africa’s top individual award which was last hosted in 2019.

The Super Eagles star has now dedicated his nomination to everyone around him on Twitter including his coaches, teammates, friends, and family.

Moses had a superb year under review as he was the Super Eagles’ standout player at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations where he guided Nigeria to the round of 16.

The 26-year-old winger will hope to end Nigeria’s long wait to win the player of the year award since Nwankwo Kanu last won it in 1999.
