John Obi Mikel has hailed the quality of the present set of players in the Super Eagles team and believes a strong core of the national team can be built with the current team.

Mikel, who retired from the national team in 2019 after guiding Nigeria a bronze medal at the 2019 AFCON beckoned on the national team coached led by Jose Peseiro to find a way to work together as a unit.

The former Chelsea midfielder also advised Jose Peseiro not to invite too many new players into the Super Eagles as they need to stop experimenting and start building a solid team Own Goal reports.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have a core group but we keep experimenting instead injecting some of the domestic league players with the core group.
“I do believe in the quality of the players in camp now. They have the strength, they are fast and talented. All we need to do is find a way to make them work together as a unit.”

Jose Peseiro has started his tenure as the Super Eagles coach in fantastic note by winning his first two competitive games with a 2-1 victory against Sierra Leone and a 10-0 win against Sao Tome.

Meanwhile, John Obi Mikel has gone down memory lane to reveal the favourite Nigerian football coach he worked under while still playing professional football.

According to Daily Post, Mikel named Stephen Keshi as his best manager, snubbing the likes of Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, and Guus Hiddink.

Stephen Keshi guided Nigeria to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title with Mikel playing a key role in midfield for the Super Eagles under the late coach.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has explained that he felt so bad about the fact that Nigeria will not be participating in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The former Chelsea star captained the Super Eagles to the 2018 edition in Russia where the Super Eagles failed to make it out of the group stages.

Super Eagles lost the 2022 World Cup ticket to Ghana thanks to the away goal the Black Stars scored at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
