Former Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba has stated that Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen can become a great player in the nearest future following the quality he possesses.

Osimhen has been lethal in front of goal for the Super Eagles and his club Napoli, with Drogba acknowledging the talents of the 23-year-old.

The Nigerian international had always stated that the former Chelsea striker was his childhood idol following his heroics that saw him score 164 goals for the Stamford Bridge outfit, GOAL reports.

Drogba also won four titles with the London club including a historic Champions League title in 2012.

And in a recent interview, the two-time Africa Player of the Year award recipient said he likes Osimhen and that the Napoli striker has all it takes to become great.

Drogba told Marco Godiamo in a clip sighted on Instagram :

“I like him a lot, great striker."

Asked if the Nigerian can become a great striker in future, Drogba added:

"He can; everything is possible in football and when you have a talent like he's got, I think it’s just a question of momentum.”

Arsenal keen on Osimhen’s signature

Meanwhile, in a bid to bolster their squad ahead of next season, English Premier League club Arsenal are intensifying their chase for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.

The Gunners are preparing a second offer for the 23-year-old which will match the €100m (£86m) price tag Napoli have placed on the forward.

Arsenal earlier saw their £51million bid rejected by the Italian club on Monday and now they are prepared to smash their previous transfer record after they paid £72million to sign Nicolas Pepe in 2019.

The Gunners are still desperate to land Osimhen to the Emirates Stadium as they continue to search for Alexandre Lacazette’s replacement.

Awoniyi goes emotional while signing Nottingham Forest’s contract

Sports Brief earlier reported that Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi will play in the English Premier League next season after he signed for newly promoted side Nottingham Forest and it got him emotional.

The Nigerian international could not hide how he felt during the official signing as he seemed to shed tears of joy upon such a historical moment of his career.

The 24-year-old former Liverpool star penned a five-year deal with the club for £17million.
