The Super Eagles players were given a rousing welcome by the staff of the team’s hotel after they showed discipline to earn a win against Sierra Leone in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Jose Peseiro earned his first win as Nigeria coach after goals from Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimhen helped the Super Eagles battle from a goal down to defeat the Leone Stars in Abuja.

The players were greeted with loud cheers from the staff of the team’s hotel, who made a guard of honour to welcome the team after the game.

The victory against Sierra Leone ended the Super Eagles’ run of 5 games without a win after also failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Nigeria will next travel to Morocco for their 2023 AFCON qualifiers second game against Sao Tome and Principe, who were recently reinstated into the competition following the disqualification of Mauritius.

Joe Aribo promises improved performances from the Super Eagles

Meanwhile, Super Eagles midfielder, Joe Aribo says Nigeria will definitely improve as a team under new coach, Jose Peseiro Complete Sports reports.

Peseiro recorded his first win as Nigeria coach after three games as the Super Eagles fought back from a goal down to defeat Sierra Leone at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Thursday, June 9.

The Super Eagles were not too convincing against the Leone Stars but got the job done and Aribo says there the team will get better with more games.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Alex Iwobi has received praises from Nigerians around the world for his brilliant game on Thursday night, 9 June, against Sierra Leone in Abuja.

Jose Peseiro and his wards had to come back from a goal down to beat visiting Sierra Leone 2-1 in the first game of their 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The visitors started the encounter impressively in Abuja and scored the first goal through Jonathan Morsay, who finished goalkeeper Francis Uzoho nicely.
