Super Eagles midfielder, Joe Aribo made history for himself in the Europa League final despite Rangers’ loss to Bundesliga side, Eintracht Frankfurt.

Frankfurt fought from a goal down to become the first German club since Schalke 04 in 1997 to win Europe’s second-tier club competition.

Joe Aribo had become just the second Nigerian in the history of the Europa League to score in the final of the competition after he gave Rangers the lead in the 57th minute.

The Rangers midfielder followed in the footsteps of Alex Iwobi, who also scored for Arsenal in the 2019 Europa League final.

Aribo however ended up as a losing finalist after Frankfurt equalized through Rafael Borre before edging the Scottish side 5-4 on penalties after extra-time couldn’t produce a winner.

Meanwhile, Oliver Glasner says he is proud of his players after Eintracht Frankfurt showed character to battle from a goal down to win the Europa League.

According to Complete Sports, Glasner says his team showed what sets them apart from the rest in this season’s Europa League final.

Frankfurt had earlier knocked out favourites, Barcelona in the semi-finals of the competition to set up a final against Joe Aribo’s Rangers.

Rafael Santos Borre is the hero for Eintracht Frankfurt

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Eintracht Frankfurt are the new champions of the 2022 UEFA Europa League, with Champions League football the prize for the team.

The Germans defeated Rangers FC 5-4 on penalties after the tie ended 1-1 at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium in Seville.

The Gers opened the scoring via Joe Aribo in the 57th minute, before Colombian Rafael Santos Borre equalized 12 minutes later in the 69th minute.
