  • Christian Chukwu has urged Nigerians to be patient with the new Super Eagles coach saying “let’s see what he will do”
  • The Nigeria Football Federation announced Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro as the new technical adviser of the Super Eagles
  • Chukwu also urged the NFF to ensure that the new national team handler stays in Nigeria and not be like Gernot Rohr who lived in Germany

Former coach of the Super Eagles, Christian Chukwu, has told the Nigeria Football Federation to ensure the new technical adviser of the national team Jose Peseiro stays in Nigeria.

The NFF announced the appointment of Peseiro over the weekend as preparations for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers are set to commence.

Since Nigeria fired Gernot Rohr, the Super Eagles have been without a substantive head coach as Augustine Eguavoen was appointed to take charge temporarily.

Following their failure to secure World Cup qualification, Eguavoen and other members of his technical crew resigned and since then there had been a search for a new handler.

Chukwu who was in charge of the team previously had lamented the delay in announcing a new coach saying it could jeopardise the country’s bid to qualify for the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, Complete Sports reports.

The 62-year-old has now urged the new technical adviser Peseiro to live in Nigeria and also monitor the local leagues.

Chukwu told Brila FM:

“I’m very happy so that it does not delay our preparation for Nations Cup qualifiers and let’s see what he will do when he comes.
“I will like him to live here, monitor our leagues and our players; let him not be like Rohr who stayed in Germany. Then days to the match, he will come back to the country with the players and so on.
“I will like this one to stay in Nigeria if they have accommodation for him and everything and let’s see how it goes.”

Aghahowa urges NFF to give Peseiro enough time

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that former Super Eagles striker Julius Aghahowa has rued Nigeria’s World Cup miss and has urged the Nigeria Football Federation to give new coach Jose Peseiro time.

Peseiro was announced as the new Super Eagles technical adviser as he will be assisted by Nigerian coaches including Finidi George, Salisu Yusuf, Usman Abdallah and Ike Shorunmu.

The new technical crew replaced Augustine Eguavoen led coaches who failed to lead the national team to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
