  • Amaju Pinnick has explained that the Nigerian Football Federation would appeal FIFA's ruling to pay Gernot Rohr
  • Gernot Rohr, who was sacked as the Super Eagles coach in December 2021 took the Nigerian football eggheads to FIFA
  • FIFA then ruled that the Nigerian Football Federation should pay Gernot Rohr $377,879.46 (N156,819,975)

Amaju Pinnick who is the president of the Nigerian Football Federation, has made it clear that his board would have to file an appeal to the judgement made by FIFA for them to pay Gernot Rohr.

The world's football governing body has directed the Nigerian soccer chiefs to pay former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr the sum of $377,879.46 (N156,819,975) before the next 45 days.

This comes after the German football manager took the NFF chiefs to FIFA, claiming that his contract was breached and actually demanded a massive sum of £1m.

But after going through his prayers, FIFA explained that the former Burkina Faso gaffer was sacked when he still had a contract with the NFF and ordered the country's soccer body to pay him a compensation fee.

According to the report on Punch, Amaju Pinnick explained that his board are still debating on whether to go to the Court of Arbitration for Sports on FIFA's judgement on Gernot Rohr.

Amaju Pinnick's reaction on FIFA's direction

“FIFA declined most of his (Rohr’s) requests and said we should pay him $377,879.46 because we paid him six months in lieu.
“We are still debating whether to go to CAS and tell them to convert that money we paid him to what FIFA wants us to pay him.”

Why was Gernot Rohr sacked?

One month to the start of the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, NFF chiefs decided to sack Gernot Rohr, claiming that he lost control of the players in the dressing room.

Eguavoen was then appointed as coach on an interim capacity, but the Super Eagles crashed out at the 2021 AFCON in the knockout stage.

Super Eagles star Zaidu Sanusi scores last gasp goal to seal League title for FC Porto

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi scored a late goal in the dying embers of the game as FC Porto clinched their 30th Portuguese league title.

The 24-year-old defender galloped forward in a counter-attack for FC Porto before slotting the ball at the back of the net as Porto pipped fierce rivals Benfica to the Portuguese top-flight.

Benfica hosted their archrivals, FC Porto, at the Estadio da Luz in a title-deciding fixture on Saturday afternoon as both teams had their eyes on the prize.

Both sides found it difficult to breach each other's defence in a keenly-contested first half which was interlaced with high-flying tackles to underline the tension and passion involved in the game.
