Sports Minister Dare Reveals Federal Government's Plans For National Stadium, Lagos

Sunday Dare who is Nigeria's Minister of Sports has stated emphatically that the Federal Government are preparing to renovate the National stadium in Lagos so as to meet world's standard.

This comes after the Federal Government succeeded in renovating the MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja and it even hosted the final World Cup play-off between the Super Eagles and Ghana.

Super Eagles of Nigeria forced Ghana to a goalless draw in the first leg of the play-offs in Kumasi with the target of eliminating the Black Stars in the return leg.

However, the second clash ended in 1-1 draw at the MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja and the Black Stars of Ghana qualified for the 2022 World Cup.

What were football fans saying after the match?

Many football fans in Nigeria were of the views that the Super Eagles would have won the match if it was played in Lagos considering the number of supporters.

According to the report on Complete Sports, Sunday Dare explained that the National stadium in Lagos will soon wear new look like that of MKO in Abuja.

“We are proud that after the success recorded with the Moshood Abiola National Stadium courtesy of the assistance from Aliyu Dangote Group, Lagos National Stadium will also be back in style with the support from Chief Adebutu Kessington. It has not been easy, but we did that of Abuja and will do it also in Lagos.''

Super Eagles of Nigeria land in strong Pot for 2023 African Cup of Nations draw

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Super Eagles of Nigeria are in Pot 1 for the 2023 African Cup of Nations draw, held on Tuesday evening, 19 April, at the SuperSport studio in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Having failed to go far at the 2021 African Cup of Nations held in Cameroon where they crashed out in the round of 16, Super Eagles players are now on the verge of starting another qualifiers.

However, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon and Egypt are also in Pot 1 for the 2023 African Cup of Nations draw.

Mali, Cote d’loire, Burkina Faso, Ghana and Democratic Republic of Congo are the other nations also seeded for the draw.
