Super Eagles of Nigeria are in Pot 1 for the 2023 African Cup of Nations draw, held on Tuesday evening, 19 April, at the SuperSport studio in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Having failed to go far at the 2021 African Cup of Nations held in Cameroon where they crashed out in the round of 16, Super Eagles players are now on the verge of starting another qualifiers.

However, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon and Egypt are also in Pot 1 for the 2023 African Cup of Nations draw.

According to the report on Complete Sports, Mali, Cote d’loire, Burkina Faso, Ghana and Democratic Republic of Congo are the other nations also seeded for the draw.

Ivory Coast will be hosting the 2023 African Cup of Nations and this will be the second time in history that the country would host Africa's most prestigious tournament.

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Taiwo Awoniyi scored Union Berlin’s opening goal in their surprise 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Sunday, April 16.

The Super Eagles forward have been in inspiring form for Die Eisernen as he netted his 13th league goal of the 2021/22 season in just his 27th appearance for the German side.

Union Berlin's Awoniyi won a fight with Frankfurt captain Hinteregger before outmuscling Ndicka to score the game's first goal.

Grischa Promel scored the game's second goal just four minutes later, shocking the Frankfurt fans as Union Berlin moved up the Bundesliga table to 6th place.

Union Berlin are looking to qualify for Europe for a second consecutive season and Awoniyi’s goals look certain to take the Die Eisernen to dreamland.
