  • Jose Poseiro has been touted to be named the next Super Eagles manager after a long intense search for a new national team coach by the Nigeria Football Federation
  • The Portuguese coach is believed to be a cheaper option than other candidates vying for the position which includes former World Cup winner, Laurent Blanc
  • Poseiro is not renowned for a robust coaching CV but he has had stints with Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto, and Al Ahly in the past

The Nigeria Football Federation is set to make a U-turn and announce Jose Poseiro as coach of the Super Eagles months after turning down the Portuguese.

The NFF in December 2021 had refused to offer the former Sporting Lisbon manager the permanent Super Eagles role following the sacking of Gernot Rohr.

The Football Federation had appointed Augustine Eguavoen instead with the former Super Eagles defender guiding Nigeria to the second round at the Africa Cup of Nations and also failed to qualify the national team for the 2022 World Cup.

According to a report via Soccernet, for the second time, the NFF's Merry-Go-Round appears to have found a final stop in the Portuguese coach.

Poseiro's appointment is expected to be ratified and announced by the NFF in the coming days to end the long awaited search for the Super Eagles permanent manager.

Jose Poseiro to come with four assistants

Meanwhile, Jose Poseiro is expected to come with four assistants when he is finally unveiled as the Super Eagles manager by the Nigeria Football Federation.

The decision to hire the Portuguese coach had been earlier criticized by former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh who believes the move is a loss of idea from the Federation Brila reports.

Following the release of a long list of potential candidates last week, including Laurent Blanc, Ernesto Valverde, and Toni Conceicao, the NFF is thought to have settled on Peseiro as a more straightforward and cost-effective alternative.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Nigerians are currently reacting to the recent appointment of new Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro by the Nigerian Football Federation.

The NFF on Wednesday, December 29, confirmed the appointment of the Portuguese on Wednesday through a communique released by the media department of the football body.

Poseiro’s announcement follows the sacking of former coach of the national team Gernot Rohr who was let go following the Super Eagles’ poor display and lack of cohesion in recent World Cup qualifiers.
