Augustine Eguavoen has stated clearly that he was not in support of the sacking of former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr who was dismissed days before the start of the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.

Despite qualifying the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the 2021 African Cup of Nations, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) came out with a statement that Rohr would not lead the team to the tournament.

They, however, gave the Super Eagles coaching job to Augustine Eguavoen on an interim basis and he steered the Nigerian team to the 2021 AFCON where they crashed out in the round of 16.

Following Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the NFF chiefs then disengaged Augustine Eguavoen and his coaching crew and they are now looking for a new coach.

According to the report on Pulse, Augustine Eguavoen stated clearly that he warned the Nigerian Football Federation not to sack Gernot Rohr as the coach of the Super Eagles.

"Yes, I complained about the timing as it was too close to the Africa Cup of Nations."

What is next for the Super Eagles?

As things stand, Nigerians will be waiting for the country's football chiefs to unveil the new coach ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Taiwo Awoniyi set to become highest ever transfer for top European giants

Earlier, Sports Brief Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi is now on the verge of becoming Union Berlin's highest ever transfer in their history if them should get him sold in the summer for €30 million.

Since the Nigerian striker made a permanent transfer to Union Berlin from Liverpool last summer, he has been impressive with many fans even blaming the Reds to have sold him.

However, failure for him to get work permit blocked Taiwo Awoniyi's chances of playing any game for Liverpool before he was sold.

Union Berlin chiefs have agreed to sell Taiwo Awoniyi at the end of the season as clubs are now expected to enter race for his signature.
