FIFA scraps biennial World Cup

Meanwhile, the world’s football governing body FIFA has scrapped the idea of staging the World Cup every two years after its president, Gianni Infantino, made a U-turn.

The plan to have a biennial tournament has been publicly ditched, with Infantino stating he was not behind the stunning idea.

The idea of having the World Cup has been met with backlashes and the FIFA boss seemed to have aimed a jibe at former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger during a conference.

Infantino, earlier stated that the World Cup being held every two years will go a long way in preventing African migrants from death in the sea.

How Italy could still qualify for the World Cup

Sports Brief earlier reported that Italy have a slim chance of still going to the Qatar World Cup if an odd loophole is exploited.

The reigning European Champions, against the odds, were stunned out of the play-offs by North Macedonia in a game that they were expected to cruise through.

Defeat to North Macedonia ended Roberto Mancini’s side hopes of playing in the World Cup for the second edition in a row, but there is still a glimmer of hope if a report on Sportbible is anything to go by.
