Tension in Nigeria As Augustine Eguavoen Resigns As Super Eagles Coach

  • Augustine Eguavoen has decided to step down as the Super Eagles coach after failing to qualify Nigeria for the 2022 FIFA World Cup
  • Eguavoen was appointed as interim Super Eagles manager in December 2021 replacing Gernot Rohr who was sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation
  • Augustine Eguavoen had led the Super Eagles to a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations in January where Nigeria got eliminated in the round-of-16

Augustine Eguavoen has resigned as the Super Eagles coach following Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 56-year-old was appointed on an interim basis in December 2021 but failed to guide Nigeria to the World Cup after the Super Eagles played a 1-1 draw against Ghana.

It is gathered Eguavoen has sent an official resignation letter to the Nigeria Football Federation and is expected to return to his Technical Director position with the NFF.

The former Nigeria U17 coach was in charge of the Super Eagles as they had a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations where they were knocked out in the round-of-16 by Tunisia.
