Super Eagles Midfielder Ogenyi Onazi Raises Alarm As He Exposes Ghana’s Plan Ahead of WC Play-Offs

Nigerian international Ogenyi Onazi has disclosed that Ghana FA officials are making efforts to recall striker Asamoah Gyan for the crucial World Cup play-offs against Nigeria.

The Super Eagles will go head-to-head with the Black Stars in a home-and-away fixture and the aggregate winner will secure a spot at the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Gyan is the all-time leading goal scorer Ghana’s senior national team having bagged 46 goals for the national team, but he last played for local club Legon Cities in 2021.

Nigerian star Onazi who was recently recalled into the national team disclosed that Ghana are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to qualify for the World Cup.

He told Punch Sports Extra:

“I have listened to so many pundits say the Black Stars are in disarray and they are having issues. For me this is a big distraction for us, so we would believe that all is not well in their camp. And they are not ready.

“According to some of the Ghanaian players I have spoken to, they are planning to recall Asamoah Gyan back to the squad because they want to qualify for the World Cup at all cost.

“Other players like (Mubarak) Wakaso and the likes want to be part of the team. Don’t forget they also have Jordan Ayew and Thomas Partey as well."

North African referees to handle Nigeria vs Ghana play-offs

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that North African referees have been named to officiate the crucial 2022 World Cup qualifiers between the Black Stars of Ghana and the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The latest confirmation by the world’s football governing body says Jiyed Redouane from Morocco will take charge of the first leg of the encounter in Gold Coast.

Tunisian referee, Sadok Selmi, will officiate the second leg in Abuja. The Black Stars will take on the Super Eagles on March 25 at the Cape Coast Stadium, before the second leg is played four days later in Abuja.
