Almost twenty-eight years to the day the Nigerian government promised the 1994 Super Eagles houses, the current government under Muhammadu Buhari is redeeming the pledge, according to premiumtimesng.com
Nigeria won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations after beating Zambia 2-1 in the final thanks to Emmanuel Amuneke second half brace.
The triumphant players were promised a house each, and after 28 years, the current government has approved the allocation of houses to 22 members of the 1994 Super Eagles in their various states.
The houses for the 22 members of the squad, some of whom are dead now, was announced on Monday in Lafia, the capital of Nassarawa State.
The gesture was to serve as compensation for the players, who were given various unfilled promises by the previous governments for winning the AFCON.
Buhari was represented by the Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr Muhammed Abdullahi at the launching of the National Housing Programme initiative of the Nigerian government.
The houses are expected to be a part of the current housing programme and will be in the state of every member of the squad, as pledged by the government.
Some of the members of the squad are in the current coaching crew of the team, with three of them in the current setup. Austin Eguavoen, Emmanuel Amuneke and Alloy Agu were all members of the 1994 squad and are in the current coaching setup of the Super Eagles.
Some of the other members of the squad are Samson Siasia, Sunday Oliseh and Jayjay Okocha.

FootballSports Brief earlier reported that Ivorian legend Yaya Toure has issued a warning to Super Eagles interim manager Augustine Eguavoen over the inclusion of Emmanuel Dennis in his squad to face Ghana.
Dennis, who plays for Watford in the English Premier League, is part of Eguavoen's highly intimidating attacking machinery and he will be expected to help the Super Eagles soar over the Black Stars.
The 24-year-old forward missed out of Super Eagles squad which bowed out of the round-of-16 at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations due to a mishap between Watford and his native Nigeria.
