The Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick has revealed that interim coach of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen will be paid only match bonuses and not paid salaries.
Eguavoen was appointed on an interim basis in December 2021 after the football federation sacked former manager Gernot Rohr who had been in charge of the national team for over 5 years.
The Franco-German was shown the exit door after the Super Eagles struggled to qualify for the final round of the 2022 World Cup playoffs following lethargic displays against lower-ranked opponents.
Eguavoen has been superb since taking over the Super Eagles job just four weeks to the start of the competition as the former Under-17 gaffer has led the national team to the Round of 16 at the ongoing AFCON after a perfect group stage with three wins in three games.
However, according to Complete Sports, Pinnick has now stated that due to his interim role with the Super Eagles, Eguavoen will only be settled based on match bonuses.
“Eguavoen is on the payroll of the NFF and he won’t be entitled to salary for the role he is playing as an interim coach of the team,” Pinnick, a former Sports administrator in Delta State said this on Arise TV.
“He will be entitled to the winning bonuses as the team progresses at the tournament.”
Augustine Eguavoen has just led the Super Eagles to the Round of 16 at the ongoing AFCON having topped Group D with wins over Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau.
Nigeria is bidding to win its fourth continental trophy after emerging as champions in 1980, 1994, and 2003.
