Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali remains a free agent after talks with Tanzanian Premier League giants Simba SC collapsed at the final stage of negotiations, according to reports. The breakdown centres on an inability to agree on personal terms, with sources suggesting the club was unwilling to meet the financial package demanded by the goalkeeper’s camp.

Nwabali has been unattached since departing South African side Chippa United in February 2026. His expected move to Simba had reportedly reached an advanced stage, generating considerable optimism on both sides before ultimately unravelling. According to a source cited by Pulse Sports, Simba had already attempted to secure the goalkeeper earlier in the year, demonstrating sustained interest in the player, but his wage demands proved beyond what the club were prepared to offer.

Despite the setback, Nwabali’s profile continues to attract attention from multiple clubs across several continents. Within Tanzania, fellow top-flight side Azam FC are reportedly monitoring developments, while two of South Africa’s most prominent clubs — Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates — have also been linked with a move for the Nigeria international.

Interest is not confined to the African continent. Moroccan heavyweights Raja Casablanca, Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ettifaq, English Championship side Queens Park Rangers, and Belgian First Division A club Union Saint-Gilloise are all reportedly keeping a close watch on the 28-year-old’s situation.

Nwabali rose to prominence during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where his performances were instrumental in Nigeria’s run to the final. The tournament saw him widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the competition, significantly raising his market value and international standing. He has earned multiple caps for the Super Eagles and has been a regular fixture in coach Eric Chelle’s squad considerations.

The extended period without a club could carry implications for Nwabali’s place in the national team setup, particularly as match fitness and regular competitive action are typically prerequisites for international selection. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign ongoing for Nigeria, the timing of a permanent move will be closely watched by both club suitors and the Super Eagles technical staff.

No timeline has been confirmed for when a new deal might be concluded, and Nwabali’s representatives have not issued a public statement on the collapsed Simba negotiations. Given the reported breadth of interest from clubs in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, a resolution to his club situation is expected in the coming weeks.
