The 2026 FIFA World Cup has provided a global stage not only for international football but also for some of the most ambitious brand activations in sporting history. Among them, one campaign has drawn particular attention from the sports and marketing communities worldwide.

Sports betting platform Stake released footage on June 22 of what it describes as the world’s first floating football field — a custom-built aluminium structure measuring 12 by 20 meters, lifted into the sky by hot air balloons with a combined carrying capacity of approximately 3,000 kilograms. The platform is covered with synthetic green grass, features painted white lines, and has fully installed goalposts at both ends, replicating the appearance of a standard football pitch.

The video, released under the campaign title “Everything is at Stake,” accumulated more than 200 million views across social media platforms and media sites during the first weeks of the tournament. According to reports, the footage reached mainstream media outlets beyond traditional sports channels, significantly expanding its audience.

The campaign arrives during a World Cup that, as in previous editions, has drawn billions of viewers globally — including many who do not ordinarily follow club football throughout the year. The tournament’s quadrennial schedule and its capacity to engage casual audiences have long made it one of the most sought-after platforms for brand advertising.

Companies competing for viewer attention during World Cup broadcasts typically invest heavily in high-production television commercials featuring well-known footballers and celebrities. Stake’s approach, however, moved away from conventional broadcast advertising toward a stunt designed to generate organic online engagement and media coverage.

The floating pitch stunt is not Stake’s only World Cup-era initiative. The platform also operates WC Predictions at Stake, a feature offering match forecasts and expert analysis intended to support fans engaging in tournament predictions. Prediction contests and bracket challenges have become a standard part of World Cup culture, with supporters tracking statistics such as defensive records, player speed metrics, and tactical trends throughout the competition.

The construction of the aerial football field required significant engineering precision. The aluminium frame was designed to be both lightweight and structurally sound at altitude, while the hot air balloons required sufficient combined lift capacity to safely carry the platform. The footage showing the field suspended in clear sky conditions was made publicly available on June 22, 2026.

Stake’s campaign reflects a broader trend among sports betting operators seeking cultural visibility during major international tournaments. With traditional advertising slots at premium prices and audience attention increasingly fragmented across digital platforms, brands have pursued viral content strategies as an alternative route to mass reach. Generating 200 million views represents a significant return on that approach by conventional digital marketing benchmarks.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is the first edition to feature 48 teams, expanding from the 32-team format used since 1998. The enlarged format extends the tournament’s duration and increases the total number of matches, providing additional windows for brand engagement and fan interaction throughout the competition.
