Southampton Defender Remains Doubtful for Ghana's AFCON Qualifier Against Angola

Mohammed Salisu could miss Ghana's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola due to fitness problems.

The Southampton centre-back will undergo a last minute assessment to determine if he will be available for the game against the Palancas Negras.

Salisu joined the team on Monday for preparations ahead of Thursday's clash, but his fitness remains questionable.

"If I look at the squad we have, the only concern will be Mohammed Salisu. There have been some concerns about him over the last few weeks. He had some injury difficulties in the last two week," said Hughton at the pre-match presser.

"Although he played last week, the club has used him sparsely because of that. This is one we will have to consider.
"From the squad that we have, he will be the only doubt that we have. It's it something we will have to determine or think about today and tomorrow."

Salisu featured for Southampton in the 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspurs and has been training individually since joining the Black Stars this week.

Black Stars pay tribute to Atsu

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that players of Ghana's senior national team, the Black Stars, came together to pay their final respects to former teammate, Christian Atsu.

Atsu tragically died following an earthquake which hit Turkey and Syria last month.

The former Chelsea and Newcastle United player, whose body was found 12 days later under the rubble of his apartment, was laid to rest on March 17 in his home country.

Black Stars train ahead of Angola clash

New coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton held his first training with the team as preparations begin for the upcoming AFCON qualifier against Angola.

A handful of players including captain, Andre Ayew reported to training on Monday with the rest of the team expected later this week.

Hughton had the available players go through rigorous drills as they maintain their sharpness ahead of Thursday's encounter.
