According to The Hard Tackle, the Magpies are keen on making a move for the 23-year-old regardless of Southampton's fate at the end of the campaign.

Meanwhile, the Saints could cash in on the £15 million-rated centre-back with a full year still left on his contract.

Salisu joined Southampton in the summer of 2020 from Spanish side, Real Valladolid. He took time to settle after a difficult first season.

However, the Ghana international is now regarded as one of the best defenders in the league.

During the winter transfer window, French giants, AS Monaco and Olympique Marseille showed interest in signing him.

Antonio picks Salisu as toughest

Sports Brief previously reported on West Ham United striker, Michail Antonio calling Salisu the toughest player he has faced in the Premier League.

The Jamaican forward is regarded as one of the strongest and most difficult players to defend against in the English top flight league.

However, Antonio admitted he always finds it difficult playing against Salisu anytime the Hammers take on the Saints.

Monaco interested in Salisu

Sports Brief also reported Salisu attracting interest from clubs, AS Monaco and Olympique Marseille in the winter transfer window.

The 23-year-old Southampton man could make a move to Ligue 1, as both clubs seek to strengthen their teams for the rest of the campaign.

According to Jeunes Footeux, Monaco wants the Ghanaian as a replacement for Benoit Badiashile, who joined Chelsea in January.
