Sevilla Goalkeeper Attacked Again in Europa League Clash Against Turkish Giants Fenerbahce

Sevilla’s progress to the Europa League quarterfinals was overshadowed by yet another attack on their goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium.

The Spanish club had lost to Fenerbahce 1-0 on Thursday night but progressed to the quarterfinals 2-1 on aggregate after winning the first leg 2-0 in Spain.

According to Football Espana, the Serbian goalkeeper had to receive stitches after being hit by lighters that were thrown by the home supporters.

Dmitrovic was struck in the head by the object and had to receive treatment on the pitch before being given the greenlight to continue the game by the Sevilla medical team.

UEFA is now set to investigate the incident and could sanction Fenerbahce heavily once investigations are done, and the Turkish club is found guilty.

Dmitrovic had initially been attacked by a fan towards the end of their match in the away leg to PSV Eindhoven in their last 16 tie against the Dutch giants.

Sevilla goalkeeper attacker jailed

Meanwhile, PSV Eindhoven supporter Philips Stadion has been sentenced to two months in jail for attacking Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic in February, The Athletic reports.

Stadion had entered the pitch towards the end of Sevilla’s last-16 tie against PSV and attacked Dmitrovic who had been brilliant in goal for the Spanish side.

The Sevilla goalkeeper would eventually wrestle the pitch invader to the ground before he was then taken away by stewards.

Sevilla goalkeeper fights back

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Sevilla goalkeeper, Marko Dmitrovic had to restrain a pitch invader after the fan tried to attack him in a dramatic finish to the Europa League clash against PSV Eindhoven.

The ugly incident took place near the end of a dramatic second leg, with the Dutch side defeating the Spanish side but still failing to progress to the Round of 16.

Dmitrovic was approached by a PSV fan who threw a punch before being wrestled to the ground by the Serbian keeper.
