  • Businesswoman and socialite Shauwn Mkhize is going on a charm offensive to placate the people of Bloemfontein and the wider Free State
  • MaMkhize is open to the idea of hosting Royal AM matches in the province moving forward
  • She brought the beloved Bloemfontein Celtic's status in the Premier Soccer League last year, which led to bitterness stemming from heartbreak among diehard supporters

Shauwn Mkhize has displayed the skill of 'reading the room'. MaMkhize is looking to have some Royal AM fixtures taken to the Free State as soon as possible.

She bought out the cash-strapped Bloemfontein Celtic's Premier Soccer League status in 2021, which led to heartbreak and bitterness among Celtic's supporters in the city, the province and the country.

This reached a head last Sunday when die-hard supporters protested outside the Free State Stadium during Royal AM's Macufe Cup match against Kaizer Chiefs.

Siwelele sa Masokolara was always the home team in this encounter regardless of the opposition, so this match was seen as something of a slap in the face.

Now, according to iDiski Times, Mkhize is seriously pondering taking some of Thwihli Thwahla's matches to the Free State in the future in a smart attempt to mend fences.

She said:

“I owe it to the people from Bloemfontein to play games here. I was speaking to the MEC (Limakatso Patricia Mahase) just now and saying to her, ‘they must bring talks [for Royal AM to play games here]’ and I feel like the stadium is too big and has become a white elephant.
“We will bring some games if they ask. As much as Royal AM is from KwaZulu-Natal, our roots come from here. If the Bloemfontein sports department does give us an opportunity to play again here, we will."

2022 Macufe Cup: MaMkhize and Royal AM continues dominance over Kaizer Chiefs in Bloemfontein

Royal AM won the 2022 Macufe Cup after defeating Kaizer Chiefs 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

Royal took the lead in the 87th minute via Ruzaigh Gamildien after beating Chiefs' offside trap, before slotting the ball past a stranded Bruce Bvuma.

All appeared lost for the Amakhosi, but for Keagan Dolly's outstanding free-kick gave Thwihli Thwahla's goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo absolutely no chance in the 97th minute.

After Thabo Mokoena missed his penalty, Phila Mzila stepped up to seal the deal for MaMkhize's charges.
