Mamelodi Sundowns and other petty rivals troll Kaizer Chiefs on "Lord Kambala Day" anniversary, 5 September

Kaizer Chiefs' failure in gunning for glory is clearly a source of great mirth for their rivals.

As reported by Sports Brief, the date 05 September 2020 will live on long in the memory of South African football watchers. It was the day Mamelodi Sundowns somehow completed an improbable come-from-behind ABSA Premiership title victory over Kaizer Chiefs, who had led by as much as 13 points before the COVID-19-induced break in March of that year.

On the final day of the extended season, Chiefs needed just a victory against Baroka FC at an empty Bidvest Stadium inside the "bio-bubble", while Sundowns had to defeat Black Leopards handily, hoping the Amakhosi stumbled to a draw or worse against Bakgaga ba Mphahlele.

The Brazilians duly thumped Lidoda Duvha 3-0 via a Lebohang Maboe hat-trick at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, nervously awaiting the Chiefs result. Khama Billiat gave Chiefs a 39th-minute lead, before Manuel Kambala equalised in the 59th minute.

The Mozambican Kambala's goal has gone down in history, with the date of this dramatic ending being remembered as "Lord Kambala Day" by Sundowns supporters as well as Chiefs' rivals.
