The likes of players Samir Nurkovic were also unveiled on a free transfer after leaving Kaizer Chiefs, and Moroka Swallows duo Ruzaigh Gamildien and Khetukuthula Ndlovu. New Zealand international Andre de Jong joined Thwihli Thwahla from their Durban rivals Amazulu.

Zondo's last coaching gig was back in 2015, when he was coach of Royal Eagles, the predecessors of Royal AM. His other jobs were also with Bay United, Bloemfontein Celtic and Golden Arrows, where he rose to prominence for the entertaining style of play by Abafana Bes'thende.

John Maduka threw the club's plans into a tailspin after suddenly quitting as coach in early June. The 50-year-old Malawian mentor had guided Thwihli Thwahla to a surprise third-place finish in the DStv Premiership, which saw the team qualify for next season's CAF Confederations Cup competition.

This caught club owner Shauwn "MaMkhize" Mkhize off-guard, with the businesswoman and socialite saying that she had to cut a trip overseas in a frantic hurry to try find a new coach.

On their books recently have appeared the names of Xolani "Blackberry" Nkala and Tshepo "Skhwama" Matete, as was reported by Sports Brief.

The two have become viral sensations for their cheeky, ridiculous but highly entertaining skills with the ball at their feet.
