FootballDStv Premiership Match Report: Royal AM Miss Chance to Consolidate Second Place Against Amazulu
- The much-anticipated KwaZulu-Natal derby between Royal AM and Amazulu failed to live up to expectations as it ended in a 0-0 draw
- Royal could not ensure that the runners-up position in this season was theirs, and will have to wait a little bit longer to do so
- The draw also meant that Mamelodi Sundowns now just needs a solitary point from their five remaining matches to be confirmed as champions
What promised to be fireworks in the KwaZulu-Natal derby between Royal AM and Amazulu instead turned out to be a damp 0-0 squib.
Royal missed out on the opportunity to ensure that second place would be theirs, and will have to wait a bit longer to get the chance to do so while on 45 points. The result also meant that mathematically, Mamelodi Sundowns needs one point from their five remaining matches to be crowned champions for a fifth consecutive time.
Amazulu remained in seventh place on 36 points, but would have preferred two more points so that they remained comfortable in the Top 8.
Royal's next match is a potential humdinger against Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinal of the Nedbank Cup against Mamelodi Sundowns next Saturday. Amazulu will take on Swallows FC on Tuesday night.
DStv Premiership match report: Stellenbosch FC piles more misery on Kaizer Chiefs in tough week
It was more of the same for Kaizer Chiefs after they were defeated 1-0 away to Stellenbosch FC at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.
As reported by Sports Brief, this defeat for the Amakhosi comes in a tough week during which they lost to SuperSport United by the same scoreline last Saturday, before sacking coach Stuart Baxter on Thursday.
The victory for the Maroons, courtesy of a Dean van Rooyen strike in the 20th minute, also ensured that they completed a season.
