  • Chelsea yet again flexed their financial muscle after hijacking €100m Mykhaylo Mudryk signing from Arsenal.
  • Former Chelsea boss and a tormentor of Arsenal in his days at the club spoke on the transfer.
  • He aimed at dig at his former club for the fee, claiming his Roma side are not capable of that.

Chelsea signing Mykhaylo Mudryk for €100m despite having less than 50 senior appearances is seen by many as a gamble and irresponsible financial decision, while others see it as a statement in the transfer market.

The Blues bullied their rivals Arsenal off the deal with just €5m difference in their offers, and also offered better personal terms and longer contract years to the player to convince him to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.

Speaking after the game as quoted by Football Italia, Mourinho highlighted he needs additions to his squad in key areas but he has been told by the club hierarchy there is no funds.

“I am not expecting anyone to arrive. The director was very honest and direct… Coaches always want to hear we have lots of money. I worked at clubs with those sorts of practically limitless funds, but it’s not our profile. We work, we give our all, we work with the characteristics we’ve got,” he said.
“We need to find a solution, we can’t just buy Mudryk for €100m!” he added.

Arteta breaks silence on Mudryk

Sports Brief earlier reported that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke on Mudryk's move to Chelsea, after the Gunners missed out on the 22 year old Ukrainian winger.

Arteta refused to be drawn into an emotional statement, he instead praised his current players after another dominant performance to beat North London rivals Tottenham 2-0.

He also claimed the club has to be careful in how they go about their transfer dealings and not be pushed into panic buying after missing out on their priority target.
