The agent of Karsdorp, Johan Henkes has said he was surprised by Mourinho's words and would seek clarification on why everyone thinks that the manager's comments were aimed at his client.

"We’re also surprised by the fact that everyone’s been pointing fingers at Rick, despite neither Mourinho or Roma uttering his name. We want an explanation from the club about the coach’s words and the way he did it," as quoted by Roma Press.

Mourinho and Karsdorp: what happened?

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Mourinho did not hold criticism back for one specific player, during his post-match interview after Roma endured a frustrating 1-1 draw against Sassuolo on November 9.

Roma looked to be on course for victory after Tammy Abraham scored his first Serie A goal since September, with a brilliant header in the 80th minute.

However, it was Sassuolo who had the last laugh, as Andrea Pinamonti scored five minutes later from a swift counter-attack to bring the match to a 1-1 draw.

Mourinho, who is no stranger to controversy, was at it again after the draw against a struggling opponent. The former Chelsea boss brutally criticised an unnamed player, saying his efforts betrayed the whole team.

The unnamed player is believed to have been Karsdorp. The Dutch international started the game on the bench and was introduced in the 65th minute in place of Mehmet Zeki Celik.
