  • Mourinho could barely finish his press conference, which was interrupted by excited Roma players
  • The Portuguese tactician masterminded another European cup final win as his Italian side beat Feyenoord 1-0 on Wednesday
  • After the match, Roma players stunned him during his media duties as they showered him with beer

Jose Mourinho got a feel of just how much the Roma players adored him as his press conference was interrupted by cheers and beer following his side’s Europa Conference League triumph.

As reported by Sports Brief, AS Roma sunk Feyenoord 1-0 in the final on Wednesday, May 27 as Jose Mourinho maintained his flawless record in European Cup finals.

It was Nicolo Zaniolo’s first half strike which proved to be the difference for Roma, who ended their season in remarkable fashion, thanks to Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese tactician, despite being very familiar with Cup finals, was still a ball of emotions as he burst into tears at full time after winning the inaugural piece of silverware.

During his post-match media commitments, Mourinho had to leave early as he was delightfully interrupted by players who cheered and sprayed him with beer.

With all the excitement at the Arena Kombëtare, it was impossible to continue with the press conference and the former Manchester United boss had to abandon his duties.

What Mourinho said after the victory

Mourinho however did get a chance to express himself after the triumph, as he spoke to Sky Sport immediately after the game.

“I've been at Roma for 11 months, I realised the moment I arrived what it meant, they were waiting for this. As I told the lads in the locker room in Turin, we did what we needed to do, qualify for the Europa League. We had great work all season.” He said.
“This was not work tonight, this was history. We had to write history. We wrote it.

On whether he would continue at Roma, Mourinho confirmed that he would be at the dugout at the Stadio Olimpico next season as well, as he felt like he was part of the club.

Fans single out Smalling as Mourinho’s best performer

Meanwhile, fans singled out former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling as one of the better performers for Roma on Wednesday.

Smalling was in inspired form as he managed to guide the Roma defence to quell unrelenting attacks from Feyenoord, particularly in the second half.

A large number of fans hailed the 32-year old for another successful European cup final with Jose Mourinho, after Europa League success with Manchester United in 2017.
