  • Felix Afena-Gyan has been named in the Black Stars squad to face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers play-off
  • The 19-year-old became a sensation when he scored a remarkable double in a tight game against Genoa for Roma in November
  • Interim Black Stars coach Otto Addo is beefing up his attack ahead of the game against the Super Eagles later this month

AS Roma teenager Felix Afena-Gyan has been named in Ghana's squad for this month's 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria.

The 19-year-old has been included in the coach Otto Addo's roster as one of the forwards to face the Super Eagles.

The promising striker has been monitored by the Ghana Football Association [GFA] after breaking into the first team of the Serie A giants.

Although the GFA is yet to release the official squad for the blockbuster clash against Nigeria, the Roma wonderkid will be part of the team, according to former National Sports Authority Chairman Kwadwo Baah Agyemang.

"Felix Afena-Gyan is in the Black Stars team to face Nigeria," Kwadwo Baah Agyemang told Accra based Starr FM, as quoted by footballghana.

Afena-Gyan failed to report to camp for the pre-AFCON camping and subsequently dropped from the squad for the tournament in Cameroon.

He is reported to have spoken with Otto Addo and could join the team as Ghana eyes a place in Qatar 2022.

The AS Roma youngster is having a breakthrough campaign in Italy's topflight, after making his debut late last year.

Jose Mourinho recalls Afena-Gyan into Roma first team

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has invited Felix Afena-Gyan to the squad ahead of their tough fixture against Atalanta on Saturday.

The Giallorossi will host Atalanta on Saturday evening as they aim to continue their winning ways after they recorded a 1-0 hard-fought win at Spezia - their first victory in five games.

Reports circulated that Afena-Gyan was demoted to AS Roma’s Primavera (U-19 team) by the Portuguese gaffer after he reportedly went nightclubbing last weekend after their away Serie A fixture.
