Luis Suarez speaks for the first time as an Atletico Madrid player

Luis Suarez seems to have put the disappointment of his Barcelona exit behind him as he expressed excitement at linking up with his new team mates at Atletico Madrid this season.

As reported, Suarez, 33, completed the move to the Madrid side from Barcelona, for a reported €6 million after being told he was not part of new Barca coach Ronald Koeman’s side.

He ended his six-year Barcelona stint as the club’s third highest goal scorer with an impressive 198 goals in 283 appearances.

It was rather strange to see the Uruguayan goal scorer in Atletico colors but he looks to be adapting quite nicely as he trained for the first time with the club on Friday, September 25.

Atletico, who are excited at having Suarez for the next two years, shared a video of the striker on their Instagram as he spoke on his move to El Atleti.

“I'm really excited to play and have fun on the pitch. Thanks a lot for the support and all your messages.Now it's time to enjoy and achieve important things this season,” Suarez said in the video.

The striker is now set to face off with his friend Lionel Messi in the La Liga, with Atleti now strong contenders for the La Liga title.

Suarez will wear the number 9 jersey at the Wanda Metropolitano, and will be a direct replacement for Alvaro Morata, who has since rejoined Italian outfit Juventus.

It is also interesting to note that Suarez was on the verge of joining Juventus himself but a number of setbacks including passport issues and controversy over a language test meant the deal eventually broke down.

He had other clubs on his radar but Barcelona were reportedly extremely unwilling to sell him to direct rivals.

Atletico Madrid host Granada in a La Liga match which fans will take a lot of interest in on Sunday, September 27.
