Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has slammed Antonio Rudiger for his role in Angel Correa’s red card in the Madrid derby on Saturday evening.

Substitute Correa was sent off by referee Gil Manzano in the 64th minute for an off-the-ball incident involving the Real Madrid defender.

Videos shared on social media show minor contact from the Argentine forward towards Rudiger, with his hand striking his chest.

As reported by Football Espana, Simeone Simeone was irritated by the referee's decision, claiming Rudiger’s theoretical reaction ensured Correa’s dismissal.

“The contact is not a hit. Rüdiger is 1.94m”, as per reports from Diario AS.
“A blow so brutal that he apparently had to sit down, but was quickly able to stand up.
“It could be a yellow, but if we send off a player for that, there would not be a player left on the field.”

Correa is set to miss Atletico Madrid's next three league games if the ban is not upheld by La Liga.

Alvaro Rodriguez saves Real Madrid

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Alvaro Rodriguez is slowly making fans and fellow players stand up and take notice.

Rodriguez grabbed a late goal in the Madrid derby against Atletico as he secured a draw for the reigning La Liga champions.

The Uruguayan rose high from a corner to head home and nick a late draw for his side.

With Benzema suffering more injuries this season, there have been numerous questions about who could deputise for him.

With one goal and one assist in his last two games, Rodriguez is proving that he's capable of providing cover for the Frenchman.

Madrid derby ends in a draw

Real Madrid shared the spoils against 10-man Atletico Madrid on Saturday in La Liga.

The point provisionally reduces league leaders Barcelona's advantage on Los Blancos to seven points but gives the Catalans the chance to expand the gap to 10 on Sunday against Almeria.

Jose Gimenez had headed Atletico in front in the second half shortly after team-mate Angel Correa had been sent off for elbowing Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger.
