Bundesliga high-flyers, Union Berlin are closing in on the signing of former Real Madrid star, Isco before the close of transfer deadline day.

The 26-year-old midfielder has spent just four months at Sevilla and is reportedly quitting the La Liga side for a move to the Bundesliga in January.

According to Get German Football News, Isco has already landed in Berlin and will undergo his medicals on Tuesday, January 31 before sealing the move to Union Berlin.

The Spanish midfielder is expected to pen an 18-month contract with the German outfit until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Isco played 19 games for Sevilla this season in all competitions, but the two parties amicably agreed to split ways after Jorge Sampaoli took over from Julen Lopetegui.

Isco key to title push

Meanwhile, with Union Berlin just one point behind leaders Bayern Munich, the signing of Isco will give the club a huge boost, and even belief that they can challenge for the Bundesliga title, LWOS reports.

During his time with Real Madrid, Isco picked up 19 trophies, including three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and five Champions Leagues.

The 26-year-old, who has also been capped 38 times by Spain, will hope to use his wealth of experience to propel Union Berlin to the club’s first-ever Bundesliga title this season.

Sevilla severs ties with Isco

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on how many players could be on the move as the January transfer window opened. One player who will be eager to get a new club is Spain’s Francisco Román Alarcón Suárez, also known as Isco.

The 30-year-old is a free agent after Sevilla decided to terminate his contract after just four months.

Isco only played 19 games for the La Liga outfit, scoring one goal and notching three assists this season.
