Real Madrid Hit Out at France’s Football President Over Careless Zidane Statement

Real Madrid has jumped to the defence of former manager, Zinedine Zidane after the former World Cup winner was trolled by France's football chief, Noel Le Graet.

Le Graet has faced heavy criticism from the football world after he mocked Zidane, by disclosing he would have rejected the 50-year-old's phone call if he rang to inquire about the national team job at Les Bleus.

According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid has now branded the statement by the France Football president about Zidane as disrespectful.

The former attacking midfielder was linked with the France national team job in the aftermath of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, after the defending champions lost to Argentina via penalties in the final.

Didier Deschamps had been touted to step down from the position with Zidane tipped to take over, before the current manager penned a new deal to remain in charge of the national team.

President apologises after Zidane comments

Meanwhile, French Football president Noel le Graet has apologised for his 'clumsy remarks' made about Zidane's potential interest in coaching the national team, Tribal Football reports.

Le Graet revealed on Monday, January 9, that his previous comments do not reflect his views about the former Real Madrid manager.

The FFF president, who has come under fire from the likes of Kylian Mbappe, claims that his comments were clearly misunderstood by the public.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Le Graet came under fire and was forced to apologise, following his remarks about Zidane's potential interest in coaching the French national team.

The French football president had quipped dismissively that 'he wouldn't even have taken his call' when asked whether the former player had expressed interest in taking over from Deschamps as coach.

Real Madrid, where Zidane enjoyed decorated spells as a player and a coach, also hit out at Le Graet, while French Sports Minister, Amelie Oudea-Castera waded in to demanding an apology.
